Sursagar Lake

Direction

Sursagar Lake : This lake is situated in the middle of the city of Vadodara. Originally it was a little pond called ‘Chandan Talav ‘ , which was built by Shri Sureshwar Desai,  hence named after him as Sursagar.  It was renovated and decorated  time to time by different rulers of Vadodara. This lake remains full of water through out the year. There are many gates in the lake to manage water in case it overflows.

When  it was  built, it was out of walled city of Vadodara, but now it is in the middle of the city , in much crowded area. There are many temples on the banks of sursagar , out of which most famous and visited is Akkalkot Swami Maharaj Mandir and Hanuman Mandir adjacent to it. Faculty of performing arts , M.S. University , famously known as ‘Music College’ established by Sir Sayajirao Maharaja of Baroda is also situated in front of Sursagar.

Municipal corporation Vadodara has installed very beautiful and tall statue of Lord Shiva in the centre of  lake. The lake is worth visiting and good place to hang out.
